Kate Middleton And The Shola Dress

Today it would be fair to say that Kate Middleton is the public figure who depicts the essence of style. Since her engagement and marriage to Prince William every photographer wants to capture an image of her latest look, which inevitably sends her female followers onto a shopping quest to buy her latest look.

The most recent significant event for the royal couple was meeting the Obamas at Buckingham Palace on a visit to London. Kate chose to wear a piece named ‘Shola’ by the high street retailer Reiss; a camel sheath, bandage style dress priced in store at £175. After being pictured and filmed in this beautiful piece, the dress sold out almost immediately in stores and crashed the Reiss online store for two days. Not surprisingly some ebay sellers have priced the Reiss garment at an extravagant £600 making profits of £425 per dress due to it being unavailable in stores at the moment. Reiss have stated the dress will be back in stores in approximately six weeks.

Fashion retailers should be prepared for sell-outs as whatever Kate decides to wear, the nation also desires to wear. A similar effect occurred when she purchased a notable blue Issa dress priced at £399 for the public announcement of the couples engagement. Some would say this is a small price for what is effectively a little piece of Royal heritage. I believe it is simply refreshing and exciting for the young female who can buy and wear a piece from a brand that the young Duchess also wears, without having to buy a copied style from a lower priced retailer because they can’t afford it. It was estimated that this particular ensemble boosted sales by an astounding 45% for London label Issa.

“Whenever any important figure wears fashion it's going to influence people all over the world, and obviously this is her moment, so anything that she chooses is going to be of huge interest," says Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue.

In the future I would love to see Kate also wear some less established designer’s work, she has the ability to make an individuals career by simply wearing a garment for literally two minutes. Her every move in fashion is watched by many eager eyes across the whole world not just the UK, she is currently the ultimate globe trendsetter.

Much Love,
